[vimeo id="126968402"] Have you ever been around someone who makes you feel like you could move mountains? Wherever they go, they somehow inspire people to accomplish more than they thought possible. I believe God has called each of us to be people like that. John Maxwell wrote a blog about how to be an empowering leader. Here are a couple of things he recommends along with my own thoughts.
First, empowering people means affirming a person’s potential. If you want to empower a person, you first must have the vision to see what they could be. John Maxwell describes it as assuming each person has a “ten” on a scale of one to ten. As leaders we need to recognize their leadership ability and then encourage that growth by repeatedly reminding them of their strengths. We need to encourage people in their talents. This way we help get them to dream beyond what they think is possible.
Second, empowering people needs personal mentorship. Through mentorship, you invite people to travel alongside you through life. One of the great benefits is that it allows people to gain the knowledge of your experience without repeating your mistakes. You learn more about each person allowing you to make more effective, detailed investments into their life.
Lastly, empowering people requires equipping people. You’ve given them the vision. You’ve given them the knowledge. Now, equip them to realize the fullness of their Divine Design. It can be through training a specific skillset or giving them hands-on experience in leadership. It may be through funding their start-up or just directing them to their next mentor. Whatever it looks like in each case, there is always a way you can equip them to fulfill their dreams and goals.
