Staying Grounded

[vimeo id="134051400"] When we reflect on our lives, I’m sure most of us can remember a few challenging seasons. These seasons have the potential to either drag us down or build us up. Unfortunately, with many Christ-followers, their grounding is not solid when going into these tough seasons. I’m reminded of the parable Jesus told about building your house on rock rather than on sand. It’s about having a strong foundation that you can stand on. So let me share a few ideas about building your house on rock.

First, never stop preparing. Every part of life is preparation for the next. The key to staying grounded in the midst of a challenge is to constantly remain in a posture of preparation. This means that you take time to reflect on a daily basis what is happening in your life, so that you understand who you are now and who you’re becoming. Review your strengths and weaknesses. Set goals for yourself in your preparation and review how far you come in achieving them. Remember this challenge is getting you ready for the next.

Second, remember that it’s only a season. When you’re in the midst of a difficult season, it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture. We forget that what we’re facing now is only a season, and that it will come to an end. When we remind ourselves that a challenge is only for a moment, we can truly embrace the transformative power the challenge brings. It will reveal your weaknesses and affirm your strengths. These seasons are opportunities to grow further in your divine design, and they won’t last forever. So be intentional and grow!

Third, remain grateful in all aspects of life. There’s nothing more powerful than a grateful attitude. Not only does this cultivate a very positive outlook for your life, but it reminds you of all the good things that surround your journey. When we intentionally remember these realities in our life, our challenges or difficulties will begin to seem less powerful. We’ll remember that our life is not completely consumed by one particular challenge, but there are other things that make our life journey amazing.
