The promise of a new semester is on the horizon, and we’re excited about all the possibilities God has in store. New classes, new goals and new opportunities await. The emotions can vary from excitement to nervousness, but I encourage you to think about some ways you can use this semester to discover God’s divine design for you.
When we strive out of our own selfish gain – work is exhausting and never ending. But when we operate from a place of abundance and rest, we are able to give and accomplish so much more.
Here are a few things to keep top of mind as you prepare yourself for next semester.
1. Build margin into your schedule.
You are young and have a lot of energy. But no person is supposed to fill every second of every day. Create space for yourself to have fun, to relax and to rest.
2. Set tangible goals.
Without goals, you risk not accomplishing what you actually need to do this semester. Often, we can get so consumed by what our friends throw at us or the never ending amounts of homework – setting goals for ourselves allows us to take a breath and keep the bigger picture in mind.
3. Find an accountability partner.
I think we are all designed for connection, and having an accountability partner that you meet with regularly can help you spiritually and emotionally. Share with them the goals you have and ask them to check in with you on how you are doing.
4. Plug into a church.
Your college community loves you and supports you so much. But don’t forget that you need more than just your college friends. You need spiritual guidance from older generations and perspectives from people in different life stages. Find a church that you love and make it a priority to be known there.
